Succeeding Together Standing Up to Disparities symposium hosted by UCB on September 17th in Atlanta, GA. Tiffaney Renfro was invited to moderate a panel on Advocacy Efforts to Improve Health Equity, sharing feedback on healthy equity from a public health perspective. Tiffaney spoke on THRIVE’s approach to community engaged efforts and working collaboratively and equitable with community leaders and stakeholders. The keynote speaker was Martin Luther King, III who spoke on his father’s legacy and his fight for health equity as a fundamental human right.

PCORI. Co-PI Abigail Lott and Tiffaney Renfro joined other Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) awardees in Washington D.C. to share more on our multi-site trial aimed at improving health outcomes for pregnant Black Women.

Marcia Ash was awarded an R36 Dissertation Grant by the Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality (AHRQ) for her dissertation research. Marcia will conduct a mixed-methods study to examine multilevel barriers and facilitators to caring for the mental health of Black perinatal women experiencing trauma and stress in order to develop targeted recommendations for future implementation of culturally responsive trauma screenings and supports.

Dr. Briana presented at the 25th National Institute of Mental Health Conference on Mental Health Services Research (MHSR). She participated in the symposium, “Successful Implementation of Trauma-focused Interventions: Stakeholder and Community Partner Leadership” at 3:25 PM on Tuesday, August 3, 2022.

Yesnely Flores was awarded the 2022 Eugene J. Gangarosa Award by the Rollins School of Public Health. This award is presented to the graduating student who has demonstrated a creative approach to solving public health problems and who shows promise for outstanding service in the international arena.

Em Lemon was awarded an NIH R36 Mental Health Research Dissertation Grant by the National Institute of Mental Health for her dissertation research. Her mixed-methods examines how immigration policy enforcement affects depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation among Latinx youth and explores youth perspectives of the role of immigration policies, collective efficacy, and connectedness on Latinx youth mental health.
Yesnely Flores received the LCPH Outstanding Student Paper Award for 2021 at the American Public Health Association Annual Meeting for her paper entitled “Amplified Social Isolation from COVID-19 policies amongst undocumented Latinx families”.
Congratulations to Dr. Briana who was elected to the board of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies. Her appointment will begin at the virtual ISTSS 37th Annual Meeting, which will be held on November 2-5, 2021.

Dr. Briana received the 2021 Emory Provost's Distinguished Teaching Award for Excellence in Graduate and Professional Education. This award is given to one faculty member at the Rollins School of Public Health and honors outstanding scholars who excel as teachers.
