HEART
Healing Through Education, Affirmation, and Rising Together
About
Trauma and chronic stress are associated with lower academic functioning, cognitive declines, anxiety, depression, traumatic stress, and traumatic grief. In addition, racial trauma - the emotional injury caused by encounters with racism and discrimination that is often unaddressed. Partnering with youth leaders and community-based organizations we are developing a multi-component intervention HEART (Healing through Education, Affirmation, and Rising Together).
HEART focuses on Healing-Centered Education in communities. Our HEART Caregiver Workshops and HEART Peer Ambassador Training equip youth and adults with knowledge and skills to recognize traumatic stress and support themselves and others with coping skills. Our HEART Social Media Campaign promotes healing through short films, photos, painting, poetry, and dance.
